Malala Yousafzai Covers British Vogue July 2021!
Malala Yousafzai brings her ultimate activist self to the July 2021 issue of British Vogue. AOC has written regularly about Malala for a decade — since that dreadful day when the Taliban put a bullet in her blogger girl on schoolbus brain in Pakistan’s Taliban-controlled Swat Valley.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner wears sustainable designs from Stella McCartney and Gabriela Hearst on the cover and fashion shoot styled by Kate Phelan, then lensed by Nick Knight. McCartney wrote on her Instagram: “Thank you @Edward_Enninful and team for joining us in celebrating all women that stay strong in their truth and fight for equality. x Stella.”
Gabriela Hearst also paid tribute to Malala on Instagram, as she launches her post-Oxford life. Included on the Hearst watch list is Malala’s new media company Extracurricular, a joint venture between the activist and AppleTV.
Like millions more human hearts, we’ve watched Malala survive after being flown to Britain for specialist surgery and life itself. We watched survive and thrive, with each blog post detailing another feather in Malala’s Pashtun headscarf.

With the new fashion editor of the upcoming Vogue Scandinavia Rawdah Mohamed sending the message “Hands off my hijab” on digital media, Yousafzai also addressed the significance of wearing her headscarf in her British Vogue: interview with Sirin Kale.
"It's a cultural symbol for us Pashtuns, so it represents where I come from. And Muslim girls or Pashtun girls or Pakistani girls, when we follow our traditional dress, we're considered to be oppressed, or voiceless, or living under patriarchy. I want to tell everyone that you can have your own voice within your culture, and you can have equality in your culture," she told journalist Kale.

From the moving memoir she published in 2013, to addressing the UN on her 16th birthday, creating the Malala Fund, her Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech, graduating from Oxford. She’s Great!

#RHOA: Kandi's Restaurant Blaze Reopens After Initially Failing Inspection!
Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss's newest restaurant, Blaze, is back open for business after temporarily shutting down following a failed health inspection. The Georgia Department of Public Health gave the steak & seafood joint a failing score of 55 on May 19.

The reality star is no stranger to the restaurant business. Before opening her restaurant, Blaze Steak & Seafood, Kandi and her husband Todd Tucker successfully ran their other Atlanta restaurant, Old Lady Gang. After a health inspector gave the couple's restaurant, Blaze, a failing score last month, the eatery was temporarily shut down for a few weeks to make the mandatory changes. The good news is, there were no bugs were found crawling around the food establishment. According to documents, the low health score stemmed from multiple sanitary violations. The report stated that a food handler touched raw oysters and salmon and then prepared non-raw foods while wearing the same gloves. Another four points were deducted for not having proper supplies "for employees to follow/use when responding to vomiting or diarrheal events that involve the discharge of vomitus or fecal matter onto surfaces in the food establishment." Additionally, the temperature of the food in the prep coolers was above 41F degrees.

According to the documents obtained by Radar, a health official returned to Kandi and Todd's food joint on May 28 for another inspection. They passed with a C score of 77. In the report, the inspector noted that "food (flour, rice, etc.) items in bulk storage containers were not identified with the common name of the food item. Also, several squeeze bottles were observed without a label.” Similar to the previous inspection, the health official noticed that thawed fish was not being handled properly. A couple of maintenance issues were pointed out by the health official and were fixed on the spot. It was reported that a light fixture was dangling and condensation was dripping from the ceiling of the establishment. Following the recent inspection, the steakhouse is now back open for business.

Fans might be able to see this whole ordeal go down on Kandi's spinoff show that is scheduled to air later this year. The spinoff, Old Lady Gang, will be Kandi's fourth spinoff since her time as an OG housewife back in 2009. Not all housewives have been successful in their restaurant business endeavors. RHONJ star, Teresa Guidice, and her brother Joe Guidice opened their pizzeria in May 2017 and filmed their soft opening during season 8 of the show. Unfortunately, they closed the doors of Gorga's Homemade Pasta & Pizza in January 2018. Former RHOBH star, Lisa Vanderpump, is a successful multi-restaurant owner, but she has faced her fair share of struggles as shown on her spinoff show, Vanderpump Rules.

Although The Real Housewives of Atlanta star's restaurant failed a health inspection, you have to give a hand to the singer/songwriter for her work ethic. She has successfully operated her first restaurant Old Lady Gang and intimate line, Bedroom Kandi.

#NewMusic from Tinashe ‘Pasadena’ Feat Buddy!
R&B singer Tinashe has returned her first lead single of 2021, entitled ‘Pasadena’.
The song, released last Friday (June 4), enlists rapper Buddy for a guest verse, marking the second time he and Tinashe have collaborated. The pair previously worked together on Buddy’s single ‘Glitch’ in September of 2020.
‘Pasadena’ was co-written and produced by Swedish-born, Los Angeles-based artist Oliver Malcolm.

‘Pasadena’ follows three collaborative single releases throughout the first half of 2021, in which Tinashe is a featured artist. A cover of Chaka Khan‘s ‘I’m Every Woman’ with TOKiMONSTA was released in March, recorded as part of the EP ‘Black History Always / Music For The Movement Vol. 2’. This was followed by ‘Love Line’ with Shift K3y in April, and ‘Lean On Me’ with Cheat Codes in May.

Since the single’s release, the singer has begun to tease her fifth studio album on social media. Purportedly titled ‘333’, it will mark her first album since 2019’s ‘Songs for You’ – which was released via her own label, Tinashe Music.

Kim Kardashian Says She Loves Kanye West ‘For Life’ In Birthday Tribute!
Kim Kardashian says she’ll love Kanye West “for life,” despite their impending divorce.
The “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star paid tribute to the Yeezy founder on his 44th birthday with an old picture of the pair with three of their kids: North, Saint and a then-infant Chicago West.

“Happy Birthday Love U for Life! 🎈” she wrote alongside the photo Tuesday.
The 40-year-old Skims founder also shared a throwback couple’s photo, a pic of West with all four kids, and a Polaroid of West from 1987 on her Instagram Story.
“Happy BDay,” she wrote over the Kimye pic.

The numerous tributes to West speak to their amicability since Kim officially filed for divorce from the “All of the Lights” rapper in February, though Page Six broke the news in early January that the marriage had dissolved beyond repair.
Kim’s younger sister Khloé Kardashian also honored the “Monster” rapper with an Instagram post, calling him her “brother for life.”

The Skims founder also included a throwback photo of her estranged husband from 1987.
Instagram
“Happy birthday to my brother for life!!!” Khloé wrote on Instagram Tuesday next to a picture of her frolicking in the ocean during happier times with Kanye, Kim and her on-again, off-again boyfriend Tristan Thompson.

“Have the best birthday Ye! Sending you love and endless blessings!!” the 36-year-old Good American founder added.
The estranged couple appear to be amicable despite their impending divorce.
Kim commented with a balloon emoji on her sister’s post.
Kris Jenner relegated West to a mere Instagram Story photo of her and the “Bound 2” performer and wrote, “Happy birthday #KanyeWest.”

Taraji P. Henson Cast as Miss Hannigan in NBC's Upcoming Annie Live! Special
Taraji P. Henson has joined the cast of NBC's upcoming Annie Live! special.
The Oscar-nominated actress, 50, will play Miss Hannigan — the infamous head of the orphanage where Annie lives before she is adopted by Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks.

Henson follows in the footsteps of actresses such as Kathy Bates, Cameron Diaz, Jayne Lynch, Nell Carter, Kathie Lee Gifford, Sally Struthers, Jo Anne Worley, and Faith Prince (to name a few) — all who have played the role in various versions of the classic musical on stage and on screen.
The part was created by the late Dorothy Loudon in the original 1977 Broadway production, earning the actress a Tony award. Carol Burnett played the character in the 1982 film.

"Carol Burnett, who brought Miss Hannigan to life in the classic 1982 movie, is someone I have studied and idolized as far back as I can remember," Henson said in a statement. "So when the opportunity came to me to join NBC and this incredible group of producers, I jumped! Carol, I hope to do you proud!"
NBCUniversal Television and Streaming's Chairman, Entertainment Content, Susan Rovner, said that Henson's casting in the iconic role "will be a thrill that has all the makings of must-watch television."

"When we decided to bring back NBC's holiday musical tradition, we were looking for something that was critically acclaimed and universally beloved – and while that's definitely the case with Annie, it absolutely applies to Taraji as well," Rovner said.
As for the title role of Annie, NBC said in a news release that the title part has yet to be cast. A nationwide search for a young star is underway.

NBC said that the network is searching for "a young, future star of any ethnicity to bring optimism, spunk, honesty and a wisdom beyond their years to the classic role" of Annie. People from across the country are encouraged to audition virtually. Annie Live! will air December 2 on NBC.

This will be the sixth live musical the Peacock network has aired since reviving the trend with 2013's The Sound of Music Live!. Other musical events have included 2014's Peter Pan Live!, 2015's The Wiz Live!, 2016's Hairspray Live! and 2018's Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.

All have been executive produced by Robert Greenblatt and Neil Meron, who will once again return on Annie Live! Lear deBessonet will direct, while Alex Rudzinski — whose live musical credits include Grease Live! and Rent: Live — will act as live television director and executive producer.
Based on the Harold Gray comic strip Little Orphan Annie, the musical Annie features music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and book by Thomas Meehan.

So Tyler Perry Is Bringing Back Madea After All!
In 2019, Tyler Perry decided to hang up his Madea wig and bid farewell to the Diary of a Mad Black Woman after making 11 films and 10 plays starring the comedic character. As it turns out, Madea’s “farewell tour” didn’t mean goodbye. Perry has just announced he’ll be reprising the character for an upcoming Netflix movie that he will write, direct and star as Madea once again in it.

An upcoming Madea movie said to be called A Madea Homecoming has been quietly in development since fall of 2020 as Variety has learned and is expected to come to Netflix next year. The project will be shot in Tyler Perry’s own studio in Atlanta, Georgia and be the part of the producer’s ongoing deal with Netflix.
A Madea Homecoming will reportedly be the final movie starring Mabel “Madea” Simmons... but, for real this time. Plot details have not been released about the project. Perhaps the movie will revolve around giving the character a proper send off. It’s possible the decision was made following the dismal reception of A Madea Family Funeral, which underwhelmed fans of the long-running franchise overall.

In late 2020, Tyler Perry expressed some nostalgia over saying goodbye to his famous character amidst the pandemic. He told Variety that he was “completely done” with Madea prior to the COVID-19 era, but has since found himself missing the “laughter and joy” his comedic work brought to people. And to quote Perry ahead of the release of A Madea Family Funeral in contrast:

I'm happy to kill that old bitch, I'm tired, man... I just don't want to be her age, playing her.
Hey, but perspectives change and since leaving Madea behind Tyler Perry has opened his own 330-acre studio lot in Atlanta, Georgia and partnered with Netflix for A Fall From Grace, which earned an incredible 26 million views in its first week of release. With a couple new platforms for the producer, writer and actor to live and breathe in, it could be the best situation for giving Madea a more memorable ending.

In addition to Tyler Perry’s return to Madea, he will reportedly explore the origins of the character with a Showtime prequel series called Mabel. The show will be about a young Madea, apparently leaving room for another actor to take on the mantle of the character in a new way. What’s interesting about this take is it is said to be a drama about Madea rather than a comedy.

A Madea Homecoming is one of many upcoming Tyler Perry movies and TV shows. Perry is also set to play a role in Netflix’s star-studded movie Don’t Look Upstarring Leo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. We’ll look forward to one last hurrah for Tyler Perry’s iconic character sometime in 2022.

Tamar Braxton and Ex-Husband Vincent Herbert Celebrate Their Son’s 8th Birthday Together!
It looks like all is well between Tamar Braxton and her ex-husband, Vincent Herbert.
The two recently reunited for their son’s Mario-themed birthday party.

The former couple began dating back in 2003, shortly after Tamar Braxton‘s divorce from her first husband, producer Darrell “Delite” Allamby. She and Vincent Herbert–a record executive–were introduced through Toni Braxton, and they wed in 2008. Five years later, the couple welcomed a son–Logan Vincent. However, they divorced in 2019–after a process that took over a year and a half.

Despite their somewhat recent divorce, they’ve buried drama as they met up to celebrate their son’s birthday! Tamar Braxton captured the moment with an Instagram post, showing her, Vincent Herbert, Logan, and another family member all together. She captioned the post:
“An 8th birthday that brought everyone together… look how God used this day for all of his GLORY [insert emojis] that’s why I love him so. Things aren’t perfect but they are GREAT just like GOD is #happybirthdayLogan #stayunderconstruction.”
Additionally, Tamar used her post to give a shout-out to her party planner, writing:
“[O]h yeah y’all the lady who did my part[y] is [B]lack, professional, young, and AMAZING!! @beautipholl omg!! I didn’t worry about ONE thing [insert emojis] thank you sis *this is not an ad*”

As we can see, Tamar was grateful she and Vincent were able to amiably reunite for their son’s birthday–and she was glad to have some party-planning help, too!

The MTV Video Music Awards to Return to New York in September!
MTV has announced that the Video Music Awards will return this fall.
via Billboard: The show will air live from Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Sunday, Sept. 12. Last year’s show, held on Aug. 30, 2020, was a virtual production.

This year’s show date is the day after the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, a fact that is not lost on MTV.
MTV is collaborating with 9/11 Day, the nonprofit that began and leads the federally recognized Sept. 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, for a series of activities during the week leading up to the VMAs.
The alliance between MTV and members of the 9/11 community – which dates back to the star-studded Concert for New York City on Oct. 20, 2001 – will encourage participation in various acts of charitable service across the country on Sept. 11.

MTV bills the 2021 show as a celebration of the return of live entertainment after a pandemic brought concert-going to a standstill for more than a year. MTV stresses that it and Barclays Center are working closely with state and local officials to implement best practices in order to safely bring together music fans from around the globe. Barclays Center’s current health and safety protocols can be found here. Any additional protocols will be announced closer to the event.

The VMAs emanated from Barclays once before, in 2013. In the past seven years, they have been held twice at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif. and once each at four venues — Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, Madison Square Garden in New York, Radio City Music Hall in New York and Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., plus last year’s virtual show.

In the past seven years, the show had no host three times and a host four times, with Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Sebastian Maniscalco and Keke Palmer each fronting the show once.

R. Kelly's Attorneys Request To Withdraw From Federal Trial!
Eight weeks ahead of R. Kelly’s sexual abuse trial, two of his attorneys have requested to withdraw from his counsel.
According to multiple outlets, Attorneys Mike Leonardo and Steven Greenberg — who have worked with the disgraced singer for years — filed documents on Monday (June 8) asking a New York judge to allow them to withdraw from Kelly's federal case.

“While we recognize that this request comes close to trial – and we are ready to proceed to trial as scheduled in August – our reasons for withdrawal are significant and it is impossible, in our belief, for us to be able to continue to properly represent Mr. Kelly under the current circumstances,” Attorney Greenberg told Judge Ann Donnelly in a letter obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times, per The Independent.

He added in a statement, “Ultimately, as trial lawyers and in the interests of the client, we weren’t comfortable professionally with allowing lawyers who have never tried federal criminal cases to have significant trial responsibilities.”
Greenberg and Leonardo additionally told TMZ, "We refused to try a case with lawyers who don’t have the appropriate level of experience and skill because that is not in the client's best interest. It is a shame that lawyers can’t suppress their own egos or self interest and do or act in the client's best interest."

Kelly's remaining attorneys Thomas A. Farinella and Nicole Blank Becker also spoke with the outlet. However, they told a different story, claiming, "Mr. Kelly terminated both lawyers [Greenberg and Leonardo] prior to filing their motion."
TMZ noted that the judge would have to sign off before Greenberg and Leonard could be fired, which hasn't happened yet.
In February, it was announced that Kelly's New York trial on charges of racketeering and sex trafficking had been postponed again.
A judge decided to push the trial, which was set for April, back by four months due to the coronavirus pandemic, Page Six reported earlier this year.

“We are scheduled for an April trial date but I suspect it’s not going to come as a surprise that that is not a date that is going to work given the current conditions,” Brooklyn federal Judge Ann Donnelly said during the hearing held by phone, per the outlet.

She then set a new trial date of August 9.
Kelly's New York trial will be held one month before his next scheduled trial, which is also centered on charges of sexual misconduct, in Chicago that is tentatively set for September. Last year, a federal judge set the disgraced singer's Chicago trial date for September 13, 2021, noting that the date could potentially change due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Kelly was hit with a total of 18 counts of sexual misconduct and other charges in Chicago and New York at the beginning of 2020.
He was arrested in July in Chicago, where prosecutors charged him with a number of sex crime-related charges, including producing and receiving child pornography and inducing minors to engage in sexual activity. He was also charged with obstruction of justice, as prosecutors claim he "thwarted an earlier 2008 prosecution in Cook County with threats, gifts, and six-figure payoffs," Chicago's Fox 32 reported at the time.

Kelly entered a not-guilty plea in both Chicago and New York cases. If he is found guilty, he faces a minimum of 15 years behind bars and a maximum sentence of 195 years in prison based on the Chicago charges alone.

Naomi Osaka Withdraws From Wimbledon Tuneup In Berlin!
Naomi Osaka pulled out of next week's Berlin WTA 5000 grass-court tournament Monday, raising doubts about the four-time Grand Slam champion's participation at Wimbledon later this month.
The decision comes after the No. 2-ranked player in the world pulled out of the French Open last week, citing her mental health.
"We have received notification Naomi Osaka cannot start in Berlin. After consulting her management, she will take a break," Berlin event organizers said in a statement ahead of the tournament, which begins on June 14.

Osaka, 23, has not revealed when she plans to play next, casting doubt on her participation at Wimbledon, which starts on June 28, and the Tokyo Olympics next month in her home country of Japan.

She released a short social media statement Saturday to thank her fans for their support over her decision to withdraw from the French Open following a dispute over her refusal to attend news conferences.

Willow Smith Says She Was Bullied for Listening to Paramore and My Chemical Romance!
While Willow Smith is slowly becoming everyone’s favorite pop-punk artist this year, she’s revealed she wasn’t always accepted for being into the genre.
In an interview with V Magazine, the rocker opened up about being a Black woman in the metal and punk crowds, and the bullying she dealt with at a younger age for enjoying rock music in general.
“[B]eing a Black woman in the metal crowd is very, very different on top of the pressures that the music industry puts on you,” Willow shares. “Now, it’s like an added pressure of the metal culture, the metal world, and just rock in general. I used to get bullied in school for listening to Paramore and My Chemical Romance.”

But none of that stopped Willow from creating her upcoming rock project—which features the Travis Barker collab “Transparent Soul”—as she told the publication that the effort is set to see a collab from personal idol Avril Lavigne.

“I’m so excited that I’m going to be having a song on the album with Avril Lavigne. She is so iconic,” Willow said. “From 13 to 16, she was my idol. It’s really nice to be able to have a quintessential pop-punk record with the pop-punk queen.”
Despite all that she went through in school, however, Willow said she’s hopeful her upcoming work means something to Black girls who feel they want to do something different than what’s expected.

“Just through the music that I’m putting out right now and the representation that I can bring to the mix, I just hope that the Black girls who are listening to my music and listening to this album see that there’s more of us out there,” Willow shared. “It’s a real thing, you’re not alone. You’re not the only Black girl who wishes she could flip her hair to the side, and wear black eyeliner, you know what I mean?”

Willow also recently appeared on the cover of Alternative Press’ June issue, where she similarly spoke about the importance of representation in rock music. Give her latest music video a listen below before her upcoming release takes over this year.

Tituss Burgess Backs Ellie Kemper After Her Apology For Being In Racist Debutante Ball!
Tituss Burgess has spoken out in support of his “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” co-star Ellie Kemper after she apologized for her involvement in a racist debutante ball.
Kemper went viral last week after images surfaced on social media indicating that the TV star had been crowned as the “Queen of Love and Beauty” at the 1999 Veiled Prophet Ball in Missouri.
The event is presided over by a “veiled prophet” wearing a Ku Klux Klan-like hood, hence the title, and came about more than 140 years ago in an effort to gather together the city’s white business elite to highlight their economic and racial power.

On Monday, Kemper posted a five-part apology on Instagram, explaining how, when she was 19 years old, she participated in an “unquestionably racist, sexist, and elitist past.”
“I was not aware of this history at the time, but ignorance is no excuse. I was old enough to have educated myself before getting involved,” she explained. “I unequivocally deplore, denounce, and reject white supremacy. At the same time, I acknowledge that because of my race and my privilege, I am the beneficiary of a system that has dispensed unequal justice and unequal rewards.”

She said she apologizes “to the people I’ve disappointed, and I promise that moving forward I will listen, continue to educate myself, and use my privilege in support of the better society I think we’re capable of becoming.”
Burgess, who starred alongside Kemper in the aforementioned hit Netflix comedy series, reposted the apology with the caption: “I love my Ellie ❤️, Oh, & P.S. Next time, just ask me, I’ll tell ya what to do 🥰.”
Kemper commented on the post saying, “I love you Tituss.”

Armie Hammer Has Checked Into Treatment For Drug, Sex Issues!
Armie Hammer has checked into treatment. The embattled “Call Me by Your Name” star is seeking help for drug, alcohol and sex issues, Page Six has confirmed.
Hammer, 34, was first spotted at the Grand Cayman airport nearly two weeks ago by an eagle-eyed fan, who saw him saying goodbye to estranged wife Elizabeth Chambers and their two children.

“Elizabeth and kids dropp[ed] him off and walk[ed] in as far as allowed,” wrote the person. “A lot of hugs and seemed emotional.”
Hammer ended up flying to a treatment center outside of Orlando, Fla., and checked in on May 31.
Reps for Hammer and Chambers didn’t immediately return Page Six’s request for comment. Hammer’s attorney also didn’t return a request for comment.

“Everyone looks at Armie thinking that he’s had some sort of privileged life — and that must mean there were no problems in his youth and everything was peachy keen,” a source close to the actor told Vanity Fair in a report published Tuesday.

“But that’s not necessarily the way things go. Just because you come from an upbringing where financial resources are plentiful doesn’t mean life isn’t without problems.”
A Hammer family friend confirmed that the actor “is committed to getting healthy and having custody of his kids.” The close friend of Hammer’s added, “This is a clear sign that he is taking back control [of] his life and knows that this [is] a step towards his overall well being.”
Chambers filed for divorce from the “Rebecca” actor in July 2020, months before his “cannibalism” scandal broke. Hammer requested joint custody of their children, Harper and Ford, that October.

“The Social Network” star has been embroiled in a sexual assault scandal since January, when various women, including exes Courtney Vucekovich and Paige Lorenze, came forward with claims of emotional and sexual abuse.

In March, a woman named Effie came forward and accused Hammer of “violently” raping her. Following her press conference, the LAPD confirmed to Page Six it had launched an investigation into Hammer.
Hammer has vehemently denied any wrongdoing against the women via his attorney.
“From day one, Mr. Hammer has maintained that all of his interactions with [Effie] — and every other sexual partner of his for that matter — have been completely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance, and mutually participatory,” Hammer’s attorney told Page Six at the time.

“[Effie’s] attention-seeking and ill-advised legal bid will only make it more difficult for real victims of sexual violence to get the justice they deserve.”
The fallout in Hammer’s career was swift, with the actor being dropped from various projects, including Jennifer Lopez’s “Shotgun Wedding,” and ultimately his agency, WME.
